If your family is dreaming about stepping into Super Nintendo World or braving the thrills of Dark Universe, you’re not alone. Universal Orlando’s brand-new theme park, Epic Universe, is already topping must-visit lists—and for good reason. This isn’t just another park. It’s a bold, immersive experience unlike anything Universal has created before.
But here’s the catch—Epic Universe plays by its own rules. From new tech to ride access and even hotel options, this park brings big changes. Whether it’s your first time visiting or you’re a Universal pro, having a few insider tips can make your visit smoother, more fun, and a whole lot more magical.
Let’s dive into the top things you need to know before visiting Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort—especially if you’re going with kids in tow.
Unlike Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe isn’t connected to CityWalk. It’s in its own dedicated space with three brand-new hotels designed with this park in mind:
Stella Nova and Terra Luna: Both are a short walk from Epic Universe’s entrance.
Helios Grand Hotel: Offers a private entrance into the park—a huge perk for convenience and early access.
If you’re staying at another Universal Orlando hotel, don’t worry—shuttles will get you there quickly and easily. While you can’t walk to Epic Universe from other resorts, Universal makes it simple to reach no matter where you’re staying. Just choose the hotel that fits your family’s needs.
Tickets are still required for entry, but facial recognition is changing the guest experience at Epic Universe—especially when it comes to ride lockers.
In the other Universal parks, you scan your ticket to use a locker. At Epic Universe, you’ll use facial recognition instead, freeing you up to focus on the fun (instead of keeping track of a paper ticket in your pocket).
Pro tip: Planning to do the Darkmoor Monster Makeup Experience in the Dark Universe land? Do any locker-based rides first. If you get made over into a creature too early, the facial recognition system might not recognize you.
Epic Universe delivers on immersion. Each land feels like a completely different world—and it’s easy to lose yourself in the details. Whether you’re exploring the Wizarding World, dodging Koopas in Super Nintendo World, or taking flight in a dragon village, every turn brings something new.
That said, the park can feel intense for younger kids or those with sensory sensitivities. Some lands are louder, more crowded, or more stimulating than others. Thankfully, there are quieter spots and calmer corners where families can regroup, relax, or let little ones take a break from the action.
We always help our clients plan for those breathing-room moments—they can make or break a long park day with kids.
If you’re thinking about adding Express Passes to skip the lines at Epic Universe, here’s what you need to know:
Some of the biggest rides aren’t included. Attractions like Donkey Kong Mine Cart Madness, Dragon Racers Rally, and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry do not accept Express Pass—you’ll need to wait in the regular queue.
Signature hotel perks don’t apply here. If you’re staying at a Universal Signature Hotel (like Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel, or Royal Pacific), you’ll still get Unlimited Express Passes for the other Universal parks—but not for Epic Universe.
So, is Express Pass worth buying? That depends on your priorities. If skipping some lines helps your day run smoother, it’s still a helpful option—but just know it won’t cover everything.
Epic Universe isn’t just about rides—it’s about interaction and discovery. Universal has taken hands-on fun to a new level, letting families play their way through each land.
In the Wizarding World, interactive wands let you cast spells and unlock magical scenes, just like in the other parks.
In Super Nintendo World, Power-Up Bands allow you to collect coins, compete in mini-games, and unlock access to a special Bowser Jr. finale.
In How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, it’s all about hidden surprises and interactive moments scattered throughout the village.
These add-ons aren’t necessary to enjoy the park—but they do unlock a deeper level of fun. If your kids love to explore and stay engaged, they’re worth considering as part of your family’s experience.
There’s so much to see and do at Epic Universe, but you don’t have to plan it alone. From helping you choose the best hotel to knowing when and how to tackle the biggest attractions, we’re here to make it easy.
